Do Recruiters Write Resumes? - HR Marketing 101
Do Recruiters Write Resumes? - HR Marketing 101If you've ever done any resume writing, you may have come across the phrase 'recruiters don't write resumes.' That statement is true but there's more to it than that.Remember how the phrase 'lunch lady' stuck in your head? Well, it stuck with me because the woman was speaking at a leadership conference and she said that if you are going to do anything, you have to begin with what is called a 'story.' You know what a story is, right?A story is not necessarily based on fact or detail but you'll find people that do base their stories on facts and they are probably the best ones to listen to. It's simply the right way to present yourself and that's what resumes are for.A resume is not just about a person's skills and experience, it's about a person's story. There are some great reasons why that is so. First of all, the more you focus on the story, the more it will work to represent you as a candidate to the hiring manager. The reason why this is so important is because you want to present yourself to a hiring manager in a way that shows them you are an exceptional person and the only reason they would hire you is because you have a great story to tell. A resume should not be just a listing of your skills and experience. It needs to tell a compelling story.By having the kind of resume that is written in the thesaurus, the recruiter will be able to recognize your story within the summary paragraph. Since the summary is the first thing the hiring manager sees, the recruiter knows immediately that your story has the potential to change the impression they get. This is because it tells them something they weren't expecting and it creates a positive impression. So if you're thinking of using a thesaurus to make your resume as effective, consider the company of a good recruiter and why they have a job that you'd like to do. I believe the time will come when that job will be in high demand because it will be so powerful.
